Understanding Dentures

Dentures are a set of teeth that are used to replace missing teeth. Once you lose natural teeth, the muscles in your face begin to soften, sometimes making you look older. Dentures are a great way to prevent your muscles from sagging and preserving your smile. Dentures are designed to look like your natural teeth, Dr. HagShenas offers traditional dentures and implant-supported dentures and will work with you to determine the right fit for you.

Traditional dentures a fully removable and are designed specifically for you so they properly fit in your mouth. They will function like your regular teeth, allowing you to eat and drink relatively normally as opposed to if they did not have any teeth. Dentures may feel odd during the first few weeks, so it may take some time to get adjusted to them. It is important to continuously visit Dr. HagShenas because your dentures may have to be replaced or realigned after some time. It is important to remember that oral hygiene should still be practiced, so brushing your gums and root of mouth will help prevent a buildup of plaque. Also, your dentures themselves should be cleaned; it is important to brush them consistently so food and any buildup of plaque are removed.

Dr. HagShenas also offers implant-supported dentures. An implant-supported denture is also used to replace missing teeth, but unlike traditional dentures, they are supported by implants. This method helps prevent deterioration of the jaw bone and surrounding tissues. Since Implant-supported dentures preserve bone density, they tend to last longer and maybe a wiser solution if this process is meant to be a long term investment.

It is up to the patient if they prefer conventional dentures or implant-supported dentures. Dr. HagShenas will work with each patient to assess the benefits and risks of each method and will work with you to ensure you obtain the result you regardless of which option you choose. Contact our offices in San Jose, CA to schedule an appointment with Dr. HagShenas.
